I have used Pinnacle Studio for years starting out with version 9 and upgrading through version I was able to determine through internet searches that version 18 could be installed on Vista 64 Bit as long as you had all the service packs installed.
I uninstalled all previous versions, and also from the Pinnacle Studio Faq page I downloaded a utility named RegDelete. I was able to install version 18 onto Vista 64 Bit without any errors. When I ran the update to version I was then able to install the So far all aspects of version Version 14 seemed easier to use, but I was able to figure everything out, except I have not figured out how to get 18 to capture directly from my live capture device.
I use another program for the capture, and then load the file into Pinnacle Studio. The rendering with 64 Bit version 18 seems faster, everything else so far is about the same. The reason I have stayed with Vista 64 Bit is because some of the programs I use do not work on later versions of Windows.
I just figured I would mention of this as the specs do not list Vista being supported. There is better editting software out there but because I've used Pinnacle Studio in the past, I stayed with it out of familiarity.
Works well so far. I also purchased it at a substantial discount as the newer versions are out. Really buggy product. Running Windows 7 with 4 gig of memory I screwed up and got the 32 bit version rather than the 64 so I'm stuck. Being familiar with how Pinnacle does things, and with a little poking around I found just about everything I needed to do and more.. I will try a 10 minute video in a while You definitely have to spend some time poking around inside Pinnacle 18 to find what you need - that is not a problem and you get to learn the software, which in this case is a higher learning curve If you want something very simple, this is not the right software for you and never will be - sorry, but that is reality.
Often times, I do 1 hour videos and I am not confident that Pinnacle's compression algorithm will successfully 'fit' to a single DVD. That is not to say that is all Pinnacle is good for - both my movies which are sitting in Yad Vehsem were done in Pinnacle 11 with great success.. In reiteration, if one is looking for something "very" easy to use, this is not the software for you, and never will be. There is a learning curve - period. If you want to produce 'decent' videos, and don't mind taking the time to learn the software, it is not a bad choice - not the best, not the worst.
